Oily skin is the result of the overproduction of sebum, an oily substance made up of fats and is secreted by the sebaceous glands situated below our skin. Potatoes are notorious for their conspiracy with junk food. Almost all junk food is associated with potatoes and they are most commonly represented as deep fried and dripping with grease- the diagrammatic synonym of unhealthy. But behind that unhealthy image, a potato is still a vegetable and vegetables are healthy. Potatoes help in treating acne by fighting off bacteria. Slice a disc from a potato and rub it over the face to stop spreading bacteria.

Turmeric is both antifungal and anti-bacterial and prevents bacterial breakout on the skin. It also cleanses the pores thus arresting the development of acne. Make a paste with turmeric and water and apply on the face. Once dry, rinse off and pat dry.

Acne develops most frequently in teenagers because of hormonal changes, although acne can occur at any age. Females may develop acne in association with their menstrual period or birth control related hormonal changes. But it is most common in teenagers and young adults. An estimated 80 percent of all people between the ages of 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point. Some people in their forties and fifties still get acne.
