Acne and Masturbation

It is true to a certain extent. Exposure to the sun for 10 to 20 minutes can improve your skin condition if you are suffering from acne. This is especially if the acne is present on your back or other parts of the body. On the other hand, prolonged exposure to sunlight can also irritate your skin. This irritation to the skin can in turn increase the production of acne. Also, the sun can dry out your skin from overexposure. This results in production of more sebum that can block your skin and cause acne.

Neither causes acne. This is a myth or rather a rumour that has started since the 17th century to prevent young boys to venture too much into sexual activities before marriage. The reason adolescents get acne more frequently because androgen secretion increases the secretion of sebum in the skin which in turn blocks the pores. If the pores get infected, it causes acne.

The popular belief is that oily skin is more prone to pimples and acne. It is partially true, but the first culprit is dry skin. Over washing your face can cause your skin to dry out. The skin reacts to the dryness by producing more amount of sebum. Sebum is the oily substance that clogs the pores. Hence, it is always recommended to moisturise after washing your face.

The cause of acne is multifactorial, i.e. there is no one singular cause that prompts breakouts. However, one of the most common causes of acne is imbalance of hormones. Having sex or masturbation produces endorphins which play a big role in rejuvenation of skin cells and thus aiding in the production of new skin cells and boosting the production of collagen which makes your skin firm and reduces wrinkles.
