Tampons are small cotton devices and expand slightly as it absorbs the menstrual blood. The expansion is minimal and the walls of the vagina are flexible. So there is no reason why using a tampon would be unsafe for women and adolescents who are not sexually active yet. When inserted correctly, it is usually difficult to feel tampon. Do make sure to thoroughly wash your hands before doing so, so as to prevent infections. If none of these works, then it is best to go to a gynecologist who will remove it with professional equipment. However, it is not common for a tampon to get pushed up so far that such a step will be necessary.
