Information about Movicol Sachet

Movicol Sachet has a natural mode of action that works gently, in harmony with your body.Movicol brings water to the hard, dry stool, and then acts locally in the colon to relieve constipation. The water retained by Movicol softens the stool and bulks it up slightly. As the stool gently expands, it naturally triggers colonic activity and a bowel movement.Because of the lubricating effect of Movicol and the rehydrated, softened, stool the bowel movement feels comfortable.
Theres no gain or loss in either water or electrolytes, because when its mixed with water, Movicol sachet forms an iso-osmotic solution which is less likely to dehydrate the body. And once its worked to bring about a bowel movement, the active molecule, Macrogol 3350, is expelled from the body virtually unabsorbed.

Use under Medical supervision.

My 4 year old daughter has suffered with severe chronic constipation since birth. When she was born she was admitted in the neonatal for 9 days due to abdominal distention, feed intolerance, suspected sepsis, vomiting bright green bile and Meconium Ileus. She did not pass her meconium for 33 hours and it was passed due to a paediatrician giving her a suppository. It's now getting worse as she is getting older. She suffers with abdominal distention, leakages, agonising pain, passing a lot of gas and cannot walk sometimes due to the pain. She has been on 5 different laxatives (lactulose, movicol, docusate, sodium picosulfate and sennakot) now of them have worked and she has also had 2 enemas that did not work also. She has had a biopsy done for Hirschsprung's disease and it came back normal and all her bloods are normal as well. She is missing a lot of school due to this and her doctors don't seem to think it's serious but after all the medication she's had I think differently. She used to pass a stool and get some relief for a few weeks now it's just days till the pain starts all over again like she isn't getting any relief at all anymore. It can be 3 weeks before she passes a stool. I've done some research and seen that meconium ileus can be related to cystic fibrosis and I've seen that you can have it in the digestive system also. Could this be a possibility for her?

It is really strange for me to understand how she is tolerating absolute constipation for 3 weeks. It is advisable to get her thoroughly checked in good teaching institutions like AIIMS/PGI Chandigarh etc.

I went to my local A&E where they told me I was badly constipated. Told me to take 6 movicol sachets a day until it cleared (my stools were soft anyhow so wasn't sure how effective this would be. One day in our just made me bloated, 3 small bits of sludge. Since then I've had colonic irrigation, yet after the colonic I've been 4 times with very loose stools (and I've barely drank or done much exercise.) I still feel uncomfortable though. It's movicol/miralax really going to help if my stools are loose anyway? How can I have soft stools yet be backed up at the same time?

The first line of treatment that almost everyone resorts to is that of taking laxatives. It is likely to be any of the most frequently advertised one bought over the counter. It may even be something recommended by an elder in the family. The biggest disadvantage of such laxatives is that they are habit forming. Once you start takingthem, you cannot leave them. Otherwise, you will not be able to evacuate your bowels in a satisfactory manner. Here, Homeopathy offers the biggest advantage. The homeopathic medicines do not work as laxatives. This means that you should not expect them to work as short term quick fixes. Rather, they work to improve the digestive system which has lost its proper and smooth functioning. The peristaltic movement of the intestines, which is responsible for pushing out the waste matter is often compromised in patients who are constipated. Homeopathy  intends to cure the root cause of constipation. It is therefore natural that these medicines are going to take some time to get things going. Ultimately, it is effective at restoring this peristaltic movement to the normal self A homoeopathic constitutional treatment will give you a permanent cure naturally You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance and permanent cure without any side effects Medicines will reach you via courier services

My father had hemorrhoid surgery 45 days ago, since then he had pain and blood in stool. He was given various antibiotics and laxatives, sitz bath etc but they were not helping much. Finally someone recommended movicol. Since then his stool is soft and pain has reduced a bit but still it feels painful after bowel movements and while sitting etc. Also there is bleeding while bowel movements. His surgeon, after colonoscopy said since he had 5-6 nodes, both internal and external, so it is taking longer to heal after surgery. He recommended self dilation with size 4,5 and eventually 6 for a month so that anal canal looses out and stool does not rub much with walls, giving it time to heal. I want to know does dilation really help? He fear it would make scar bleed more due to forced stretching? Also how to get rid of pain, blood etc. He thinks initial part of his stool is hard which rubs off his anal walls, thus causing bleeding. Movicol makes rest of the stool soft but not initial part. My questions: 1: does filation help in increasing anal canal size or it makes wound worse? 2: how to make initial part of stool soft? 3: how to get rid of pain and bleeding? How long does it usually take in such cases? My dad is always sad and depressed due to this. Please help. Thanks.

Hi there ~ however, I believe you need to see a surgeon / proctologist for your problem. If the initial part of the stool is hard and rubs off the mucosa causing bleeding then it most likely is an anal fissure which is easily treated by an expert surgeon or a proctologist. Using enema to make initial part of the stool soft using per anal dulcolax may be useful, however you need to consult a surgeon for definitive treatment. The pain and bleeding will be better once a surgical procedure is performed.
