Maintain and monitor your urine alkalinity to ph 7.2 Self monitor your blood pressure also, to 110/70 ? Avoid foods that are kidney toxins. An alkaline vegan diet that avoids all animal proteins (ground meats, dairy, egg whites, milk, cheese, beef, pork, chicken), soy proteins, yeast, alcohol, concentrated sugars seems to make us feel better. Fruits and Vegetables to avoid: salted foods, tomato, potato, eggplant, peppers, celery, star fruit, strawberries, plums, prunes, soy, margarine, crisco, potato chips and peanuts. While kidney functioning is still excellent, dietary things that help PKD are also high potassium foods; plant based diets with an emphasis on raw fruits and vegetables; whole food starches such as corn on the cob, sweet potatoes, rutabagas, turnips, winter squash. Include a few selected pre-soaked grains (spelt, quinoa, rye, oats, Kashi, brown rice) and pre-soaked nuts (almond, coconut, chestnut). Enjoy plenty of leafy greens, broccoli, radish, and below ground root crops. Soak all beans, legumes, grains, seeds and nuts before eating. This lowers their phytic acid content, making these foods more digestible and alkaline. Salt intake and cholesterol levels are two things that we can alter. Take personalised dietary expert advice. Thanku. Remember, milk, Coffee, Lemonade, Soup, Ice cream, Tea, Juice, Soft drinks, Gelatin, Sherbet, Water, Ice cubes, Alcohol, Popsicles, Pudding, Yogurt, Gravy are to be counted for fluid consumption.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. In a diabetic patient invariably peripheral neuropathy does set in after a few years of that condition. It is seen even when blood glucose is well controlled. There are a few medications used to reduce the intensity of that condition like using methyl cobal amine, folic acid and lipoleic acid combinations and drugs like pragabalin or gabapentine are used. These do help. Thanks.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. If I remember correctly, yesterday only I had answered your query about appropriate control of hypothyroidism. In uncontrolled hypothyroidism where TSH value is more than the prescribed limit, weight gain along with all other symptoms of the disease tend to reappear. With a TSH value of 7.23 mU/L, your efforts to reduce weight are unlikely to be successful. So first thing is to bring that number down to 3 mU/L, by increasing the dosage of thyroxine being taken now. Then take a balanced diet that provides calories based on your ideal body weight, plus reduce about 500 calories from that and continue that diet with regular exercise for over 1 hour. That can help in reducing the weight. Thanks.

Hi, I have a swollen and movable lymph nodes under my chin. I have a pain on my right side of face I have TMJ disorder too what should I do. For plain relief.

Is TMJ disorder is also of right side. You may find relief with some or all of the following therapies. 1. Moist Heat. Moist heat from a heat pack or a hot water bottle wrapped in a warm, moist towel can improve function and reduce pain. Be careful to avoid burning yourself when using heat. 2. Ice. Ice packs can decrease inflammation and also numb pain and promote healing. Do not place an ice pack directly on your skin. Keep the pack wrapped in a clean cloth while you are using it. Do not use an ice pack for more than 10 - 15 minutes. 3. Soft Diet. Soft or blended foods allow the jaw to rest temporarily. Remember to avoid hard, crunchy, and chewy foods. Do not stretch your mouth to accommodate such foods as corn on the cob, apples, or whole fruits. 4. Jaw Exercises. Slow, gentle jaw exercises may help increase jaw mobility and healing. 5. Relaxation Techniques. Relaxation and guided imagery can be helpful in dealing with the pain that accompanies TMJ dysfunction. Deep, slow breathing enhances relaxation and modulates pain sensations. Some have found yoga, massage, and meditation helpful in reducing stress and aiding relaxation. 6. Side Sleeping. Sleep on your side using pillow support between shoulder and neck. 7. Relax Facial Muscles. Make a concerted effort to relax your lips, and keep teeth apart. 8. Yawning. Use your fist to support your chin as you yawn to prevent damage to the joint and prevent your jaw from locking open. In addition, avoid: Jaw clenching. Gum chewing. Cradling the telephone, which may irritate jaw and neck muscles.
