Hi lybrate-user Your symptoms suggest Upper \Respiratory infection. Most of the time it is Viral, and will not need antobiotics. Now Advent is an antibiotic. You can try Salt water gargling and steam inhalation three times a day for 2-3 days. Also have soups with pepper, and drink only warm water. If symptoms do not subside, or you develop fever, you'll need to decide on taking antibiotics. They mostly subside with symptomatic treatment. If you do have to take them, they are safe for pregnancy.

HAIR FALL Scalp has approximately 100,000 hair. Fall of upto 50 to 70 hair per day is normal. Old hair keeps falling only to be replaced by new hair. Hair fall beyond 100 strands per day should propel one to seek medical attention. There could be various causes for hair fall. Finding the cause is the first step towards treatment. 1.Nutritional deficiency: Lack of essential nutrients like iron, biotin, protein, vitamin D3 etc. In diet. People often claim to be very cautious and putting in every effort to eat healthy, but till the time one has these things in one’s kitchen - cooker, fridge and oven, one claim to be having nutritious diet falls flat since 87% of the nutrition is killed in food cooked in cooker. Similarly microwaves are strong enough to kill the nutrition in diet. Now did you realize why, almost everybody is having hair fall, dark circles, early whitening of hair, fatigue etc. Chloroflorocarbons are supposed to be very dangerous for one’s health. These harmful gases are continuously emitted in the fridge. We keep food under these harmful gases and then consume them. Worst, after doing this day in and out we claim to be eating healthy. SOLUTION: Add raw uncooked food to diet-sprouts, amla (Indian Gooseberry), almonds, dates, milk, soya, curd, lassi, gud (darker the gud better it is, whiter the gud bad it is) etc. Take biotin supplements for three months after dermatologist prescription. Get serum ferritin levels checked. In case they turn out to be less than 40 ng/dl, one is deficient in iron. Remember despite hemoglobin levels being normal one can have hair fall secondary to iron deficiency. Hemoglobin is the measure of iron in blood circulation, ferritin is the amount of iron stores in body. If they are less, iron deficiency induced hair fall would occur. 2.Hormonal imbalance: Various hormonal imbalances can lead to hair fall. Both, excess or less thyroid levels leads to hair fall. Get TSH, T3 AND T4 levels checked. Polycystic ovarian disease: Excess of various hormones – Prolactin, FH, LSH, free testosterone, Insulin etc. Leads to conglomeration of hair fall, obesity, acne, and irregular periods. SOLUTION: A thorough checkup of all hormones and hormonal treatment balances the situation. 3.Androgenic Alopecia: It occurs due to hormone named testosterone. Here the amount of hormone is normal but the hair strands are sensitized to the hormone. Sensitized hair first gets thinned out and finally dies permanently. However it follows different pattern in male and females. Male: Males start losing hair at the both the frontal corners. Slowly the hair line recedes backwards. Female: there is overall thinning of hair and widening of central partition. However there is no balding in women ever. Cheer up ladies! SOLUTION: Minoxidil 5% solution applied over scalp every night on dermatologist prescription would help further regression of hair. 4.Chemical and heat damage: Advent of new era of hair treatments like rebonding, colouring, straightening comes with sure shot way to damaged hair. SOLUTION: If you are fond of these treatments, get them only at the lower part of hair and never ever at the hair roots near scalp. Thus, one can prevent damage up to a great extent. 5.Stress: Stress releases various bunch of hormones which are bad for hair and skin. SOLUTION: Resolve to take ten minutes off for pranayama (deep breathing exercises and meditation, travel to offbeat destinations, make time for your hobbies, write down your worries: it’s a great way to let all the bad emotions out which may be stifling inside making you uneasy.) 6.Recent illness: Any serious episode of illness, typhoid, malaria, surgery, hepatitis etc. Will lead to severe hair fall three months after the illness. And not during or immediately after the illness. 7.Post pregnancy: A women gets amazing hair throughout pregnancy because of surge in estrogen hormone. Immediately post-delivery, she suffers from severe hair fall that’s because of sudden withdrawal of hormones. This hairfall lasts for 6 to 18 months. Nothing to panic, it all get normal in due course of time. 8.Crash dieting: Fad for size zero compels many to opt for crash dieting .It severely affects there nutritional supply leading to hair fall. SOLUTION: Popping up multivitamin pills to make up for the loss and gorging on healthy diet is the way out. Hope this helped you figure out your cause for hair fall.

FOR DANDRUFF: FREQUENT HEAD WASH: Wash your hair minimum three times a week. Dead skin, oil and white flakes should be washed off frequently. Every day washing is also good. Use shampoos containing salicylic acid etc. Keep lather for five minutes before washing it off, thus giving medicine time to act. # CURD AND LEMON: Apply curd or lemon on scalp half an hour before head wash. Lactic and citric acid present in curd and lemon respectively, kills fungus causing dandruff. Apply it continuously for few days till dandruff vanishes. Thereafter, use once a week or fortnight for prevention of recurrence. Once a week apply curd, once a week lemon (don’t apply both together on same day). # AVOID PROLONGED OILING: Too much of oiling, specially leaving oil overhead throughout the day post washing provides excellent breeding ground for dandruff to grow. Apply oil half an hour before head wash, never after that. Oil is good for hair provided applied the right way. Whatever, oil goes deep into hair roots helps. The one left over scalp and hair just attracts dust and pollution and acts as a nice breeding ground for fungus to grow. In case scalp and hair feel dry post head wash apply Aloe Vera gel to combat dryness instead of oil. # DON’T TIE WET HAIR: Avoid tying wet hair. Moist environment facilitates fungus growth thus aggravating dandruff. # PRESCRIPTION BASED ANTI DANDRUFF LOTIONS: Consult a dermatologist who would prescribe anti dandruff lotions to be applied on scalp at night and after bathing. # Very severe cases of dandruff, where white flakes are accompanied by redness and itching is called –Seborrheic Dermatitis. Along with scalp, red scaly rashes are also seen on eyebrows, chest and behind the ears. Steroid based shampoos like Sebowash and mild steroid and salicylic based lotion application on scalp and rashes left overnight would help. Consult your dermatologist for same.

Please help me out. I had seizure 3.8 years ago and after it my treatment get started as CTSCAN was normal but there were focal bilateral temporal spikes noticed in EEG. I have completed the treatment of three years without any further seizure and till 3 years I was on same dosage of medication, on completion of treatment EEG was again performed and as per doctor there was bit improvement but still like Right focal temporal spikes noticed, Since I was seizure free so doctor asked to stop medication by decreasing the dosage gradually. In mid March I have stopped medication and I am seizure free till date. Since there is no guarantee in medical science but still I have few questions coz I am bit depressed and worried. 1.This seizure indicates I am suffering from epilepsy or it is possible that a person had one seizure only in life time and get cured after treatment? 2. precautions I have to take so seizure will not trigger again or any home remedies/supplements which I take to cure this?

Epilepsy is an abnormal medical condition due to abnormal electrical discharge from the brain, which could be due to genetic defects, brain injury, brain infection, brain tumor etc. Recent study shows, patients with awareness, knowledge and attitude towards the disease had better health related quality of life. Do’s Do take your medicines at the prescribed times. Do make it known to your family members, friends and people who work with you that you are seizure-prone. Tell them what should be done in case you get an attack in their presence. This is nothing to be ashamed of as epilepsy is a medical condition just like high blood pressure. If your child has epilepsy, do inform the teacher and the school authorities about it. Do tell your child's teacher what to do if your child has a seizure. Do keep an accurate record of your seizures and their frequency. Preferably, maintain a seizure diary. Do ask your doctor about medicines for other conditions before taking them. Do follow a balanced diet. Do exercise regularly but avoid over-exertion. Do have good lighting in the room where you watch TV. TV picture flashes can trigger seizures. Good lighting can prevent such attacks. Do tell someone if you are going for a swim; swim only if your seizures are under control. Moreover, whenever possible, go swimming with a friend. Do talk to your doctor about the pros and cons of using contraceptive pills (medicines used by women to avoid unwanted pregnancy) along with your epilepsy medicines. Do wear protective headgear when cycling. Do tell your doctor about any ill effects that you experience. Do get a good night's sleep daily. Do make sure you have enough medicine so that you don't run short, even when you are travelling. Do check-in with your doctor regularly. Don’ts Don't stop your treatment unless your doctor tells you to. Don't consume caffeine or alcohol excessively. Don't take other medicines without checking with your doctor. Don't lock the bathroom/toilet door, if possible. Don't smoke. Don't give others your medicines and don't take anyone else's medicines.
