I was diagnosed telogen effluvium by a&nbsp; dermatologist on 21 september 2016. My hairloss started around 20 august 2016. I shedded for 7-10 days&nbsp; and then it stopped on its own. I was going through a rough time in my life so I realised it after a week that my hair is falling in excess amount. I went to a dermatologist who diagnosed it as TE. I was highly depressed about my hairloss at the time I went to the doctor. She gave me tugain 2% to use for 21 days. Tugain has 2% minodoxil w/v and 63% absolute alcohol v/v. The doctor did not tell me how to use it. I read the prescription which stated not to use more than one ml in single application. Since my hairloss was diffuse I wondered how to use just one ml on the entire scalp. This was my biggest mistake. I used the medicine for 7-8 days and within 7-8 days I finished two bottles each of 60 ml. I feel so dumb. I used it in huge amounts. I stopped using it after 7-8 days since it was causing dandruff flakes on my scalp. 12 days after stopping tugain I started to shed gain in huge amounts for 4-5 days. Within 4-5 days I lost about 15% of my hair density. I called the doctor who prescribed me tugain, she said that hairloss is temporary and stop using tugain and then continue again after some while. I could not say her much because it was my mistake as I did not read the prescription. <br> The base contained absolute alcohol which I read on the internet is a harmful agent. I am so scared right now. Have I killed my hairfollicles by using it excessively? It has been more than a month since I used the medicine and hairloss occurred, I am. Afraid my follicles were damaged hence my hair fell out and now they are destroyed by now.

How To Reduce Acidity?

How To Reduce Acidity?

Gastric acid is formed in the stomach by hydrochloric acid ( HCI ) ,
Potassium Chloride ( KCI ) and Sodium Chloride ( NAC ) which causes acidity.

Here are some tips to reduce Acidity :

  • Choose an alkaline diet – If you remember from your chemistry class in school, the pH Scale provides a measure between 0 most acidic and +14 most alkaline. Our body’s optimum is pH 7. 36 which is tilted towards being alkaline, an alkaline diet is one which helps you maintain a perfect Ph balance and does not create unnecessary acids. It is a fact that we usually like a lot of acidic food but this only harms our optimum body function.
  • Eat Greens- Eat a lot of green vegetables, fruits, roots, nuts. These are alkaline and keep you away from acidic gases. Make vegetables the focus of your meals, not meats.
  • Reduce the intake of Acidic food- Reduce your intake of acidic food like eggs, refined sugar, meat, white flour, and dairy.Limit Alcohol Consumption- Alcohol has high sugar content and is highly acidic. In large quantities, it can be fatal. It is perfectly ‘ok’ if you like a glass of beer or wine every now and then. Just be conscious of how much you drink.
  • Drink Alkaline Water – Drink a lot of alkaline water at least 8 to 10 glasses a day. Average tap water has an alkaline content of about 6.5 to 7 Ph but alkaline water has about 9 Ph . This will keep your body most hydrated and make sure you do not generate unnecessary gas or acid.
  • Exercise – Break into a sweat regularly. This will also help losing weight while keeping acidity in check.Seek Balance – Stress is a major cause for acid as well, so look at mind altering exercises like Meditation , Yoga , deep breathing and long walks.

7 Homeopathic Remedies For Urticaria!

Urticaria or hives are red, raised lesions that occur anywhere on the body, usually around the trunk, hands and legs. They appear as small round rings or large patches that changes shape, may itch and be surrounded by a red flare. They can be acute or chronic, with acute almost always being an allergic reaction. It is often due to unknown causes, ranging from chronic irritation to parasitic infection to temperatures to water types.

Homeopathy treats diseases as a whole, and similarly, when treating urticaria tries to identify associated symptoms and thereby treat the cause also. After a detailed discussion about predisposition and associated symptoms, a customized remedy will be prescribed, which may include one of the following common homeopathic remedies.

  1. Apis Mell: The hives consist of isolated patches that are painful, tender, itch at night, feel like bee stings, become purple. There is burning pain, slight fever, and warmth of the surrounding skin. It is worsened by changing weather and exercise, causing severe itching and burning. The patient may already have asthma.
  2. Arsenic Album: The urticaria is caused by eating shellfish and causes burning and restlessness. The condition gets worse being at the seaside and by getting into sea water. Arsenic is also useful to treat urticarial symptoms during the recession of the lesions. The person also could be down emotionally with depression, despair, indifference and irritability. If the lesions are more severe, the restlessness is also severe. It is worse after midnight, from 1 to 2 a.m.
  3. Rhus toxicodendron: Prepared from the leaves and bark of the plant poison ivy, Rhus works on multiple body systems including skin, joints, eyes, extremities, and overall vitality. In addition to urticaria, it is also used in cellulitis, arthritis, fevers, etc. It is effective if the urticaria has a burning sensation, inflamed reddened rash that is worsened by cold and improved by warmth.
  4. Urtica urens: Made from a plant called stinging nettle, which itself has a tendency to produce urticaria, it is used when there is urticaria from bee stings or after eating shellfish. The lesions are red with severe burning and itching, recurring every year, could be associated with weather changes.
  5. Natrum Muriaticum: The common salt sodium chloride is potentized, and its inner healing power activated. It is used for chronic urticaria, where the lesions develop after severe irritation.
  6. Dulcamara: The lesions develop followed a general prickly sensation setting in and at night when it is cold and damp. The hives are irregular white patches surrounded by a red area that itch badly. The hives are associated with violent cough, swelling of the lymph nodes, fever, restlessness, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, bitter taste, and intense aching in pit of stomach.
  7. Kreosote: Kreosote is one other medicine of important value in urticaria.

Should You Wash Your Eyes Daily?

M.S. Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Vadodara
Should You Wash Your Eyes Daily?

Often many patients who visit wash their eyes daily with water based on the practice followed by their ancestors or other family members and friends.

Is this necessary? Let’s understand.

The idea behind washing eyes with water appears to be to clean the eyes and remove dust/dirt, feel fresh and cool in hot weather etc.

The fact is, eyes clean themselves every minute through tear exchange during blinking which happens about 12-16 times per minute and so there is no need for additional cleaning. To feel cool in hot weather, one can always clean face with their eyes closed

Is there any harm in washing?

Yes. The tear fluid has a special composition friendly for the eye surface. Its pH, osmolarity, antimicrobial property, etc. gets disturbed by putting water or drops in the eyes. Water coming down from the overhead tank into tap or wash basin may be containing bacteria, fungus, parasites, etc. of serious nature. It can also contain other impurities. So there can be a risk of infections or irritation of the eye.

So eyes should never be washed?

The only situation when eye should be profusely washed with water or any sterile liquid like sodium chloride bottle is when some chemical falls in the eye. Do not wait for anything and wash the affected eye with lot of water even before contacting a doctor. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Salt Restriction For BP - 10 Tips!

Salt Restriction For BP - 10 Tips!

Salt or more specifically Sodium plays a crucial role in BP management. Too high salt/Sodium ingestion can cause high BP while too low salt/sodium levels can cause low BP. So it is important to maintain an optimum salt intake. Studies have shown that a reduction in the amount of sodium consumed through the diet leads to a noticeable decrease of blood pressure and therefore, it is important to keep salt intake as low as possible. Salt intake is not same as Sodium intake. Salt is Sodium Chloride and is just one of the forms in which human beings consume Sodium. Here are some tips--

  1. Recommended Salt/ Sodium intake - Adults should consume <5gms of salt in a day (appx 1 teaspoon salt)/ Or <2.3 gms of sodium daily. Ideal Sodium intake should be <1.5 gms daily.
  2. To decrease salt/sodium, AVOID processed foods like Chips, nachos, popcorns, namkeens like bhujiya, salted peanuts etc, pickles, papads, chutneys, sauces like tomato and soya sauce, ready-to-eat meals, junk and fried food like burgers, french fries, cured hams or bacon or salami, packed salty drinks like juices or buttermilk, hot chocolate etc.
  3. Avoid adding salt from over the top in your salads, soups, curds and vegetables.
  4. DO NOT Absolutely remove salt from your diet. Hence, Salt used while cooking the food at home is fine, but once the food is cooked do not add extra salt/chaat masala in the cooked food.
  5. Teach healthy eating habits to your children by encouraging them to eat fruits, vegetables, drinking fresh food and home cooked meals rather than junk food.
  6. If you are heart failure patient or kidney disease patient discuss with your Cardiologist or Nephrologist about the optimum recommended salt intake specified for you.
  7. It is difficult to get used to low salt in terms of taste when you are used to salty taste, but it is possible. But the health benefits of controlling salt in diet can play a major role in BP reduction thus preventing the need for medicines, hence it can be worthwhile to get used to low salt taste.
