About Castophene Tablet

Castophene Tablet is used to treat incomplete and infrequent bowel movement. In such cases, it is used to empty the bowels. Hence, it is said to be a laxative. Thus prescribed to treat constipation.

This medicine is also used in the evaluation of renal blood flow to aid in the determination of renal function. Thus, Castophene Tablet is employed as a diagnostic agent.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant. Your dosage will depend on the medical condition for which you are undergoing treatment, any other medical conditions you may have, any other medicines you may be taking, your response to this treatment, your height, your weight, your gender and your age.

Castophene Tablet is also prescribed for the treatment of chronic atonic or spastic constipation and of constipation associated with rectal disorders; management of irritable bowel syndrome. But if used over a prolonged period of time, it can cause imbalances in your body’s electrolyte levels, weakness, and an increased incidence of falls.

You must not hold in stool as that can worsen bowel issues. Take Ispaghula after a gap of two hours from other medicines, as it may interfere with the absorption of other medicines. It is advised to usually consume once a day as needed for up to 2 weeks. Do not take an overdose, or for a longer period of time than your doctor tells you to.

You are advised to eat more fibre in your diet. Also, drink 8 to 10 glasses of water every day. Exercise for at least 3 times per week. Elderly may have insufficient fluid intake which may predispose them to faecal impaction and bowel obstruction.
