About Capreomycin

Lung infections that occur because of particular strains of tuberculosis (TB), are treated by Capreomycin. This is a combination drug, and is only prescribed in case of those patients who cannot be treated with any other medicines. More specifically, this medicine is a polypeptide antibiotic, and kills the organisms that cause TB infection.

The drug should be avoided if you are hypersensitive to any substance present in it. It should not be taken if you are already taking injections to treat TB.

The drug is injected into the body by a nurse or doctor. You can also do it yourself at home, but make sure you ask your health care provider to teach you how to do it. Avoid using the drug if the bottle it comes in is cracked or the solution has become cloudy.

Keep the drug, injection as well as needles away from kids and pets. Reuse of the needles can cause infections, resulting in more complications. In case you miss a dose of Capreomycin, get in touch with your doctor as soon as possible.

When it comes to side effects, a few that commonly occur include pain in the chest, cough, fever, chills, appetite loss, dizziness, problems with breathing and drowsiness.
