Dear lybrate user, - In this congenital disorder the aortic valve has two cusps instead of the normal four from birth - the progress in life depends on if some problem develops due to the valve & the child becomes symptomatic, there may not be any problem till adulthood - later on can be corrected by surgery.

I am 13 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with herpes zoster infection. I have been prescribed valocyclivir for treatment. Will this infection pose any threat to the baby? Will the baby be born with any defects? Will I be able to diagnose it during scans? Is there risks for congenital varicella syndrome in case of shingles? Please clarify.

Developing shingles during pregnancy is possible but relatively uncommon-An infection with the varicella-zoster virus may pose some risk to their baby. (This virus causes both shingles and chickenpox.) Shingles (also known as herpes zoster) is caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). If you develop a VZV infection during pregnancy, it may pose some risk to your unborn child. This depends on your stage of pregnancy. If you develop chickenpox before you are 30 weeks pregnant, your baby may be born with a birth defect although it is quiet uncommon and experts differ on their views regarding this as most experts also agree that developing shingles during pregnancy is even less likely to harm your unborn child

My daughter age 8 months old with congenital heart defect, recently echocardiogram report says ostium secundum atrial septal defect sizes of 0.8mm diameter, left to right shunt. No feeding problem. Is it necessary for open heart surgery to close the hole now at these age?

Hello thanks for the query first of all I would like to know the exact size of atrial septal defect (asd. I think it should be 0.8 cm not 0.8 mm (as 0.8 mm asd will not cause any significant problem). The management depends on the following parameters 1) growth of the baby, 2) how frequent she is getting symptomatic 3) how severe are the symptoms 4) what is the exact hemodynamic finding in the echo (including pulmonary pressure) 8 mm asd considered to be large and chances of spontaneous closure is less. The weight and height you have mentioned is appropriate for age. Also I would like to know the margin of the defects. As on the basis of rims of the defect we can decide whether device closure can be done to avoid the open heart surgery. I request you to give detail history and to attach the echo report so that I better able to help you out. Regards.

Hello- No it is not congenial. Peyronie's Disease is characterized by an extreme curving of the erect penis caused by a hard, fibrous layer of scar tissue that has developed under the skin. When the penis grows and hardens, the scar tissue pulls the affected area to an angle, causing an unnatural bend. The plaque that is formed by the thickened layers of penile soft tissue is non-cancerous, but this condition can be painful and make sexual intercourse quite difficult. There are a number of factors that can cause Peyronie's Disease. An injury to the penis caused by vigorous masturbation from a long time or aggressive sexual intercourse or from an accident may cause small tears in the tissue and ruptured blood vessels that bleed internally. Peyronie's disease can be completely cured and reversed by the help of Ayurveda treatment, and it does not have any kind of recurrence too. Many potent herbs in Ayurveda contain natural growth factors and phyto-molecules that are known to stimulate penile tissue repair and the rejuvenation process.

You need to do regular follow up with Paediatric Cardiologist and also do regular 2D echo at intervals of 2-3 months to see progression of severity. Once the obstruction is severe, he will need Surgery.
