Joint and muscle problems arise when the joints in bones are damaged due to some injury and can cause a lot of pain. There are several conditions that can lead to painf in the joints like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis and other sprains and injuries. Joint and muscle pain can affect any part of the body and with age this can increase. A Rheumatologist would be able to identify the cause of the pain with a few tests and can prescribe medication to reduce the pain. Moderate to severe pain can be treated with non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory over the counter drugs. If the pain is severe and does not respond to these medicines, the doctor may prescribe opioid drugs. These medicines may cause drowsiness and also constipation. Injections may also be prescribed for patients who do not find relief in the medication. The injections are usually steroids and are administered directly into the join every three to four months. Steroid injections are used for patients with arthritis, and tendonitis. There are also other injections like removing fluid from the joint or hyaluronan injections that is a synthetic version of the natural joint fluid. This is largely used for treating osteoarthritis. Physiotherapy also provides sufficient relief in treating joint and muscle problems. For inflammation and swelling of joints, a person can use ice pack and rest the joint several times a day. It also helps to elevate the joint above the level of the heart for some relief.
