Ideally accuracy of a pulse oxymeter can be checked only by comparing the oxygen saturation shown by the oxymeter with that shown in arterial blood gas analysis (abg). But that this is not practically possible. You can buy it from a reliable pharmacy nearby and ask them if they are providing warranty.

Its having a sensor if it is showing same readings in pencil and your finger then for sure it is erratic.

Any well acclaimed brand will do, just do not go for cheaper or chinese brands. Few suggestions from my side will be like Dr. Trust, accu sure, Dr. Morepen, omron, bpl etc.
