About Cofton Syrup

This is a combination syrup which has Chlorpheniramine, Ammonium Chloride, and Sodium Citrate as active ingredients. It is an antihistamine which works by blocking the action of histamine in the body. This syrup relieves the symptoms of sinus pressure, sinus congestion, runny nose. Also, itching of the throat and nose, watery eyes, and sneezing due to upper respiratory infections, hay fever and allergies.

Some adverse side effects include dizziness, confusion, anxiety, constipation, nausea, restlessness, blurred vision. Apart from this,

    How does this medication work?

    This syrup is a first-generation antihistamine, which is used to prevent allergic symptoms from conditions such as urticaria and rhinitis. It binds to the histamine H1 receptor, which prevents the action from endogenous histamine. Ammonium chloride is an expectorant. It decreases the stickiness of mucus (phlegm) and helps in its removal from the airways. Sodium citrate is a mucolytic. It thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out.
