Teething: Do you know the signs and what to do for pain relief?
To see the first tooth appear in your baby is as precious as any of the things that your baby does for the first time. And after that you count every tooth that comes. And the joy is no less. Teething, however, comes with a lot of hassles too for the baby. Sometimes you are not able to understand what is making your baby so irritable and he/she may just be cranky and want to bite everything within their reach which you would later realize is due to teething.
As a new mom, it is of immense help to know the teething signs which can make it easier for you to handle your baby properly in that phase.
Let us check out what those telltale signs are:
1. Sore or red gums around the tooth
2. They dribble and bite
3. Babies begin to chew a lot
4. They appear fretful and irritated
5. They may have a temperature
There are times when some teeth would appear without much issues. But at other times, it could be a lot difficult. Your baby may face discomfort and pain and their pain could put you at unease too.
You can do simple things to reduce your baby's discomfort:
1. Give you baby a teething ring to chew on. Your baby finds it very comforting. To make it more comforting, you can put it in fridge and give it to the baby chilled. It helps soothe the gums. Keep one thing in mind that the teething ring is clean and sterilized at all times.
2. During the phase of teething, babies put their hands repeatedly in mouth. It relieves their teething sensation. You have to be cautious that your baby’s hands are clean to keep infections at bay. You can keep washing their hands with antiseptic liquid or soaps, like the one's from Dettol, a trusted brand for hygiene world over.
3. To soothe their gums, you can rub them with sugar-free teething gels. You can consult the pediatrician before doing so.
4. Give them something healthy to chew on too like a fruit or a vegetable. It will provide them good nutrition.
5. Giving them a cool sugar-free drink, like water, also provides relief to the baby.
Just by doing these simple things and watching over the teething signs can help you and your baby a lot.
