Hi. I am Dr. Swati Sinha. I am working as a consultant in the department of gynae in Seta Ram Bhagiya. Today I am going to tell you about how to prepare for labor? So preparation for labor has to begin in the antenatal period. Labor is physically demanding and therefore you need to develop your stamina. You can do this by either walking for 40 to 45 minutes per day or by taking up some other form of exercise. Enroll for birthing classes. Where you learn about labor. In these birthing classes, you will be taught about labor exercises and breathing techniques. Labor exercises like bouncing on the birthing bowl at all force help you not just reducing the pain of contractions but also shorten the duration of labor. It is very important that you are well supported in labor. You must choose a hospital which has well-trained nurses who will patiently and companionably support you in labor. I would also encourage you to choose a birthing partner who can be your husband or mother. Your birthing partner will help you by encouraging you in labor. Help you do exercises and even give you a massage when needed. With all this preparation and support almost 90% of women are able to cope very well with labor. However for the 10% who may have a difficult labor, we have medications and epidural analgesia which is very effective in taking away the pain of labor.

Thank you.
