How To Improve The Functioning Of Kidney?
Kidney disease is known for its silent effects on your overall health. Since the nature of the disease is not easy to identify by a layman, its delay detection can cause serious damage. The good news is most kidney diseases can be prevented with the help of basic lifestyle adaptations. Mention below some suggestions that can be kept in mind to improve the functioning of kidney -
- A healthy diet and life - It is important to keep oneself fit and active, it keeps almost all forms of diseases away! Adequate exercise and a healthy diet can help you maintain your weight, blood pressure, and sugar levels; these are known to be major culprits of most kidney diseases. Also, avoid foods that are high in fat, sugar, carbs, spice, and caffeine to prevent kidney damage.
- Check your body and blood - As mentioned in the first point, an imbalance in blood sugar and pressure can be harmful to your kidney health. Keep an eye on both, especially in the case of diabetes, heart condition, high blood pressure, or other associated medical conditions. You can also have a routine urine test to ensure the healthy functioning of your kidney. Also keep an eye on your physical health in case you have a family history of kidney disease, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, or abnormal BP.
- More fluid, better filtration - The amount of water or other fluid intake varies with each person. The fluid intake of an individual is determined on the basis of its exercise routine, living climate, health conditions, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. As per the average human need for fluid, 2 liters or 8 glasses of water is recommended under normal circumstances. But under certain medical conditions linked with the liver, digestive system, and kidney, one must take medical advice to have a better understanding of their fluid needs.
- Don’t smoke - Like alcohol and caffeine, smoking can also harm your body in many ways. Regular smoking can slow your blood flow which can hamper the optimum functioning of the kidney. This can result in the development of kidney disease alongside the medical conditions that are known to happen because of smoking.
- Avoid regular intake of OTC anti-inflammatory or pain-killer - Over-the-counter medications like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDS)/painkillers (like ibuprofen) can be very hard for the kidney to fully dissolve. Prolonged consumption of such medications can put pressure on the kidney, which can lead to salt depositions or weak functioning of the organ. Take these medications as per the doctor’s advice only.
