Constipation means different things to different people. For many people, it simply means infrequent passage of stool (feces). For others, however, it means hard stools, difficulty passing them (straining), or a sense of incomplete emptying after a bowel movement.

Causes:-

  • dehydration
  • lack of dietary fiber,
  • lack of physical inactivity or medication side effects.
  • changes to what you eat or your activities.
  • not enough water or fiber in your diet.
  • eating a lot of dairy products.
  • not being active.
  • resisting the urge to poop.
  • stress.
  • overuse of laxatives.
  • some medications (especially strong pain drugs such as narcotics, antidepressants, and iron pills)

Dietary modification for constipation:

  • take high fiber diet
  • whole grains, such as whole wheat bread and pasta, oatmeal, and bran flake cereals
  • legumes, such as lentils, black beans, kidney beans, soybeans, and chickpeas
  • fruits, such as berries, apples with the skin on, oranges, and pears
  • vegetables, such as carrots, broccoli, green peas, and collard greens
  • nuts, such as almonds, peanuts, and pecans
  • plenty of water

To help prevent or relieve constipation, avoid foods with little to no fiber, such as

  • Chips
  • Fast food
  • Meat
  • Prepared foods, such as some frozen meals and snack foods
  • Processed foods, such as hot dogs or some microwavable dinners.
