Sun Exposure - Can It Cause Dark Circles?

Pigmentation irregularities are very common, especially in Asians or colored people. Sun exposure results in an increased production of melanin (pigment which gives skin color), thus, increase in dark tone of skin. Thinning of skin, including fat loss and decrease in collagen (most abundant protein in the human body), results in darkening of the blood vessels (the bluish hue) under your eyes and makes the dark circles more pronounced. Other causes may include fatigue, allergies, heredity etc.

Dark circles under the eyes often serve as a very good indicator of your weaknesses or health conditions. They may imply a number of things, which may include nutrient deficiencies in the kidneys, or unhealthy level of blood sugar. This discoloration is often brought about by a number of mineral deficiencies, such as iron - thus making the veins around your eyes appear darker than what they usually are. Additionally, pregnant or menstruating women may also experience similar symptoms due to severe iron deficiencies.
