For this reason, it is also not advisable to brush your teeth just before having oral sex. TIP: Rinse your mouth with water before performing oral sex.

Oral sex can happen instantaneously, but it s always better to be prepared. Having a shower ensures that you are rid of sweat and dirt and prevents bad body odour. You should also rinse your mouth with water to ensure that there is no food debris in your mouth. Lastly, don t forget protection and keep a condom or dental dam handy. TIP: Turn having a shower into foreplay by inviting your partner to shower with you.

As with vaginal sex, protection is essential while having oral sex. Having unprotected oral sex may not get you pregnant, but can transfer STDs from one partner to another. Some of the common STDs that can be transferred through oral sex include herpes, chlamydia and gonorrhoea. TIP: Always use a condom or dental dam while having oral sex.
