After the surgery, it is natural to feel some pain. It is a part of the recovery process. Short-term relief from pain can be achieved through medications prescribed by the orthopedic surgeon. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, opioids are helpful. A combination of these medicines with local anesthesia can improve pain. Opioids are meant to reduce pain after the surgery, but they are narcotic and thus addictive. Intake of opioids needs to be stopped immediately after the pain subsides.
