When you want to think of coming home after a long and tiring day where you want to relax, space should welcome you to do that. A less messy home which looks and smells good does that job very well. Imagine walking into a dingy dark space as against a well-lit home. It is an obvious choice. There is a strong psychological component to it, and helps overall emotional and physical health and well-being. Think of home not just as a physical space, but as an emotional space. To make it welcome and effective and relaxing, you need to improve the energies in it.

A home that is not very positive can have multiple effects on a person and surroundings (both people and otherwise). Given that we spend about 2/3 of the time at home, it is very important that it enable a healthy living and thinking. If not, both physical and emotional disturbances, unhealthy relationships, etc. can be very common. The effects of a calm home should be experienced to be understood. If you are feeling negativity in your house, look at making small changes which will improve your feeling (both emotional and physical) and overall well-being of people in it.
Colors have an influence on the energy in the house

Different colors evoke different emotions and/or feelings. Orange, red, and yellow are known to improve positive energy and should be used, especially in the living and bedrooms. The kitchen is more prone to be dirty and can be colored accordingly. Shades like black and gray can be depressing and should be avoided if possible. In addition to wall colors, also try wall papers and curtains which can make one feel good. Wall papers have themes which can depict what you like waterfalls, landscapes, wildlife, etc.

Music works in multiple ways and influencing the energy at home is just one of them. When there is soothing music played, the energy is different as compared to loud, jarring music. The mood can be changed depending on the occasion. Start the day with a melodious devotional music and see the energy levels increase and remain through the day.

Ayurveda believes the energy can be modified in multiple ways having good ventilation, playing good music, using scented candles, changing wall colours, keeping it less cluttered, etc. In order to improve energy levels, bring in people who can add to the happiness quotient; celebrations increase those levels.
