Many people tend to settle as far as their partners are concerned due to poor self-image. However, after a major event such as weight loss, or plastic surgery to improve looks, your self-image may get a boost where you start valuing yourself much more and your partner doesn t entice or appeal to you anymore. You tend to look for a better option subconsciously, which results in flirting and in most cases, ends up in a physical relationship. This results in you cheating on your partner.

Emotional intimacy may also be considered as cheating and in fact women have been known to be bigger emotional cheats than physical cheats. However, many emotional relationships also turn physical as they become more intense. Emotional cheating is also considered cheating as some of the innermost thoughts which you are only supposed to share with your significant other is also shared with another person.

In the case of many relationships, both women and men tend to use a sexual encounter to bring a relationship to an end which empowers them and gives them the strength to call it off. However, when one partner admits to the other that he or she cheated on them, the other partner is also tempted to do the same to return the favor as a form of revenge.
