Consumption of certain types of food is primarily considered to be the main contributor to acidity. However, suffering from certain ailments automatically makes you more prone to have acidity. In case you suffer from diabetes or dehydration, chances of suffering from acidity becomes manifold. Obesity is also found to be one of the triggers of this condition.

People who tend to suffer from acidity religiously abstain from coffee fearing that would exacerbate the situation. Though the fear is not entirely unfounded, it is also not entirely true. Consumption of coffee does trigger acidity, but that occurs in very few people and there is absolutely no need to completely abstain from it.

This is a belief that most people suffering from acidity swear by. Junk and spicy food are considered as the common criminals which not only trigger acidity, but also must be must be avoided once you are examined with acidity. However, same as coffee, the key word is not to over-eat them and at the same time there is no need to completely avoid them either.

This is another of those beliefs that remain unchallenged, but that does not necessarily prove its authenticity. Though it is true that milk does lessen the intensity of heartburn, at the same time the calcium present in it increases the production of acid in the stomach.
