My mother got calcaneal spur (severe pain at the heel) what are the reasons behind this.
Hi lybrate-user One of the causes of the calcaneal spur can be lack of vit D (due to menopausal age) and over pressure of heels (standing while cooking). So get he Vit D checked and in the mean time get some silicon base heel cushions available in market (vissco, tynor, flamingo are the company names). At home contrast bath ie, hot and cold water deeping (1 min of hot followed by 20 secs of cold for 5-6 times) will give pain relief, but for permanent cure Do physiotherapy with some elctrotherapy and exercises along with Vit D supplementation, that will definately help.

I am a 29 years old man and I have heel pain from last five years. In first year it occurs rarely, in second year it happens when I work for long hours. But from last three years it became regular. I feel relax when I change my shoes & feel no pain till 5~6 months. So I changed my shoes on a regular interval. But now from last two months it feels continuously even I changed a new pair of shoes with heavy foam cushions (lakhani shoes). Now I feel pain in heel area and middle of feet bottom. Please guide me. Warm regards,

Heel Pain: Get treated with Ultrasonic therapy which would directly heal the calcaneal spur (inflammation of the calcaneum bone) which causes the heel pain in majority of the cases. Along with ultrasonic therapy, shortwave diathermy also can be given. Simultaneously it is better to wear MCR chappals (micro cellular rubber) which will help to transfer the weight evenly in the feet so that the weight will be completely felt in the heel area. Simultaneously it is better to wear MCR chappals (micro cellular rubber) which will help to transfer the Plantar Fascitis weight evenly in the feet so that the weight will be completely felt in the heel area. You shall do contrast bath to relieve this pain. Contrast bath is nothing but keeping in one tub hot water (bearable heat) and in another tub cold water Ask your father to apply ice in the painful area which would definitely help to greater extent. If still the pain persists then it is better to keep TENS stimulation at one of the nearby physiotherapy clinics.
