What is the life span for a baby of 1 year suffering from leukodystrophy, along with other 18q syndrome anomalies?
Leukodystrophy is not a single condition, but refers to a group of conditions that mainly affect the white (? leuko?) matter of the brain and the spinal cord. The primary leukodystrophies affect myelin production or breakdown. Myelin is the substance that surrounds and insulates the nerve fibres in the nervous system. When myelin is damaged, the underlying nerve tissue cannot operate in the regular way. Leukodystrophies are usually progressive conditions, which means they get worse over time. They cause loss of normal brain functions. Life expectancy depends on the type of leukodystrophy. Treatment for leukodystrophy currently, leukodystrophies cannot be cured. Stem cell therapy and bone marrow transplantation have each been tried in some cases. However, the benefits depend on the timing, age of onset and severity of symptoms. Therapies such as gene therapy and enzyme replacement therapy are under investigation. Treatment is mainly supportive and may include: physical therapy occupational therapy psychological counselling family counselling (including genetic counselling) medications (for example, medications for seizures. Things to remember leukodystrophy refers to a group of inherited disorders that affect the white matter of the brain. It causes loss of normal brain functions. Onset of symptoms is variable. There is no cure, but supportive treatment can help manage some of the symptoms. Most children with leukodystrophy will have significant problems with walking, talking, and activities of daily living. Some children with leukodystrophy will have a progressive downhill course in their abilities and will have a shortened life span. We encourage you to discuss your child's prognosis with your provider. Because children with leukodystrophy usually have significant medical problems, the impact on the family will be significant. A support group (see below) may be extremely helpful for you and your family. No one can predict the life span. Please ask personally for more doubts.

My body feels charged frequently and whenever I touch the metal I get a severe electric shock.
Yes, the electric shock sensation (also referred to as ?brain zaps?) are common symptoms of anxiety. If your doctor attributes your symptoms to stress and/or anxiety, you can be sure they are stress- and/or anxiety-related. Actually, stress is the cause of these kinds of symptoms. Under normal circumstances the shock is harmless. Static charge can be measured in millijoules (mj). You typically need at least 1 mj to generate a shock you can feel, 10 to 30 mj to make you flinch, and 1,350 mj to kill you. Shuffling across a carpet can generate from 10 to 25 mj, just 1 or 2 percent of a lethal jolt. Your nerve fibers are covered in a protective coating called myelin. Your damaged and healthy nerves can't relay messages and cause a variety of physical symptoms, including nerve pain.

Multiple sclerosis (ms) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). In ms, the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body. Here's currently no cure for multiple sclerosis (ms), but medicines and other treatments can help control the condition and ease some of the symptoms. Treatment for Ms. depends on the stage of the disease and the specific symptoms the person has. Almost one million people in the united states have ms, making it one of the most common causes of neurological disability among young adults in north america. What is the main cause of multiple sclerosis? The cause of multiple sclerosis is unknown. It's considered an immune mediated disease in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. In the case of ms, this immune system malfunction destroys the fatty substance that coats and protects nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord (myelin). How do I check if I have ms? They include: 1.A detailed medical history. 2.A full neurological examination. 3.Mri scans of the brain, spine or both to look for Ms. plaques. 4.A spinal tap to look for signs of inflammation and certain immune proteins that are often present in people with Ms. 5.Blood tests to rule out other disorders. 6.Is sclerosis serious? 7.Multiple sclerosis (ms) is a condition that affects the brain and/or spinal cord. It?s very difficult to treat Demyelination which can remain lifelong but folicacid supplements will help and anti convulsions medication needs to be given , if necessary we will have to add another tablet after clinical examination and she might have to take it lifelong
