Uncommon causes: Nail pain can also be caused by less common factors such as melanoma, psoriasis, and cysts or tumors under the nail. Most of these are accompanied by toenail discoloration, so if you notice an unusual color or hue on your nail or the skin surrounding it, that's a sure sign that you should have your toe checked out by a professional.
