This medication can be defined as a bronchodilator that is useful for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works as a β2 adrenergic receptor that increases cyclic AMP. Increased AMP leads to activation of protein kinase A which again prevents phosphorylation of myosin. All this mechanism leads to the relaxation of smooth muscles. Ipratropium acts as a bronchodilator, used to treat Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) conditions like asthma. It reveals bronchiolitis action by minimizing the influence of cholinergic on the bronchial musculature. By blocking the cholinergic nerves it causes the airways to enlarge and muscles to relax.
