It works by triggering the TRPM8 receptors in the skin that are cold-sensitive. It does that by blocking calcium currents of the neuronal membrane. Through kappa-opioid receptor agonism, it can also produce analgesic characteristics. It inhibits an enzyme named Cyclooxygenase which is responsible for the formation of prostaglandin. Prostaglandin is a major contributor to the process of inflammation and pain sensation in the body. Camphor is a major component of most liniments and balms, which are supplied as topical analgesics. Even though it is used in many medications, the mechanism of action for the drug is not well understood as of yet.
Whenever you take more than one medicine, or mix it with certain foods or beverages, you"re at risk of a drug interaction.
