It also works as an anti-inflammatory by inhibiting the metabolism of arachidonic acid by inhibiting phospholipase A2 thus inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Lastly, it works as a bactericidal by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, which is essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to expansion and destabilization of the bacterial DNA and causes cell death.
