Digital Ceph Carpus Test

Digital Ceph Carpus Test

Cephalometric analysis is a diagnostic procedure used to study dental and skeletal relationships of the skull. It is primarily used by orthodontists and oral surgeons for planning. Done using a cephalometric radiograph, the machine is now also used to study the carpal bones of the hand. This is particularly useful to study post trauma conditions of the carpals. The method is preferred to a traditional X-ray due to the ease of obtaining a digital picture. The X-Rays emitted are, however, dangerous and care should be taken to avoid overexposure.

No special preparation is required. The patient will be asked to remove all metal objects. Inform the doctor of any metal implants in the hands. The patient will be asked to wear a protective lead apron.

The images obtained will be studied by the doctor to observe any anomalies in the carpals. Further treatment will be advised on basis of this.

After following all instructions, the patient will be led to to radiograph. The screen will be leveled to the patient's height. The patient will be asked to stand away from the radiograph and only place his hand on the screen. Care should be taken of not standing in front of the X-Rays when emitted. The professional will obtain a few clear digital images from the Radiograph. The patient will then be asked to step away.
