Chromosome Analysis, Leukemic Blood Test

Chromosome analysis on Leukemic blood is done primarily to identify the numerous rearrangements of chromosomes. In medical terms, it tests history, presence or deterioration of Leukemia, Lymphoma and myelodysplasia disorders present in the peripheral blood specimens. The test is done for diagnosis and prognosis of the above. It helps gather information and study the molecular changes going on in the patient. Mainly, it helps detect abnormalities like chromosomal trisomy, monosomy, deletions, duplication, translocations or other form of genetic rearrangements. These may cause development issues and other hematological abnormalities if present.

Wear a half sleeve shirt on the test day as the blood sample is to be taken from a vein near your elbow joint. A shirt that is full sleeve and can be easily rolled up is also fine. There is no other special preparation routine you would need to follow. You can eat and drink normally as per your routine. Monosomy, i.e, the absence of a chromosome this leads to turner syndrome. Deletions, i.e, missing pieces of a chromosome.
