CD2 Test

CD2 Test

The cluster of differentiation (CD) is a protocol used for the identification and investigation of cell surface molecules providing targets for immunophenotyping of cells. Immunophenotyping is a test used to identify cells based on the types of markers or antigens present on the cell’s surface, nucleus, or cytoplasm. This test is used to diagnose different types of lymphoma and leukemia by comparing normal cells and cancer cells.

It is recommended that you should either wear a sleeve-less or a short-sleeved shirt. Wearing a shirt with full- sleeves that can easily be rolled-up is also fine. There is no need to disturb your diet routine before the test. You can eat and drink normally. Though, if the blood taken is also to be used for further different tests, the doctor will inform you in prior. In that case, you only need to fast for few hours. Always follow the particular instructions given to you by the lab.

The Immunophenotyping test is used for the following reasons: To differentiate between: Acute myeloid and lymphoid leukemia B and T cell lymphoid neoplasms such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia and lymphoma Reactive and neoplastic expansions of lymphocytes Predicting prognosis in lymphoma Identification of lymphocyte subsets

The test procedure includes: A blood sample is drawn from a vein in your arm. Sometimes a bone marrow, tissue biopsy, or fluid sample is collected by a health practitioner. Samples are analyzed using various panels of antibodies that have been established for various types of leukemia or lymphoma. Basic testing of a CBC, differential, and platelet count is performed in addition to immunophenotyping. A health practitioner provides information about an individual who they suspect has leukemia or lymphoma.
