It also indicates a group of blood disorders, caused by inheritance. Polymorphism refers to genetic change or mutation. This condition affects the production of hemoglobin, causing moderate to severe anemia. Hemoglobin is the protein that contains iron in the red blood cells in the body. This protein is responsible to carry the oxygen to all cells. People who suffer from this condition have low hemoglobin. Low hemoglobin obstructs the supply of oxygen.

No special preparation is needed to take this test. This condition occurs due to genetic factors and the test analyses the alpha globin bad beta globin chains of hemoglobin. While lack of iron is one cause of anemia, lack of the globin chains cause thalassemia. This test is conducted to evaluate these chains of proteins. The main purpose of this test is to detect whether the patient has Thalassemias or not. It is more like a CBC, blood test with which various factors are analyzed. The test doesn’t call for any diet recommendations too.
