Allergy mango Test

Allergy mango Test

An Allergy Mango Test helps to determine whether an individual is allergic to mangoes or not. It is performed to measure the amount of IgE in the blood. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is an antibody produced by the immune system. Antibodies are proteins that attack antigens, a foreign protein, such as bacteria, viruses, and allergens to help safeguard the body against the intruder. Mango contains urushiol, an oil found within the cashew plant family. When contacted, this oil can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening allergic reactions. Although rare, mango allergies may cause a cough, contact dermatitis, swelling of lips and tingling sensation on the tongue.

There is no special preparation required before the test. It is recommended that you wear loose fitting clothes for the test. Wearing sleeveless or short-sleeved shirt should be preferred. You are not required to change or alter your diet. Drinking water and staying hydrated is highly encouraged before the test as it helps in drawing the blood easily with no or little pain. Ask your lab provider or doctor beforehand, if you are required to fast or not and any other instructions to be followed during the test especially if you are taking any allergy medicines.
