This condition brings about severe inflammation in the optic nerves. These optic nerves are a bundle of nerve fibres that help in the transmission of visual details from the eye to the brain so that it may be processed in a normal manner. The main symptoms of this condition include pain and vision loss on a temporary basis.
HOW IS OPTIC NEURITIS DIAGNOSED?
The diagnosis will be done by an ophthalmologist who will perform a routine eye exam followed by a detailed ophthalmoscopy as well as pupillary light reaction test. These will help in understanding the stimulations that the eye is reacting to, and also in measuring whether or not the reactions are normal.
HOW IS OPTIC NEURITIS TREATED?
The most common medication here is Steroid treatment and with this some other injectable medicines are also given like Avonex, Rebif, etc. This helps in preventing consequences like multiple sclerosis, which are common with this disease.
