Entropion is a medical condition in which the eyelids turn inwards causing the eyelashes to rub against the surface of the eye. Thus friction causes irritation and discomfort. Symptoms are:
• Turning in of the eyelid when blinking or closing eyelids
• Irritation and discomfort in the eye
• Redness of eye
• Mucus discharge or crusting of eyelid
• Decreased vision
• Watery eyes
• Sensitivity to light and wind
HOW IS ENTROPION DIAGNOSED?
Entropion can usually be diagnosed with a routine eye exam and physical. The doctor may pull on the eyelids during the exam or ask to blink or close the eyes forcefully. This helps him or her assess the eyelid's position on the eye, its muscle tone and its tightness.
HOW IS ENTROPION TREATED?
The treatment includes a procedure where the eyelid will be pulled and taped back to give short term relief to the patient. Surgery is one of the long term treatment methods that most doctors use. Botox injections may be used to make up for lost collagen.
