Chalazion is a small bump that appears on the upper or the lower eye lid. It happens due to a blocked oil gland. In most cases, the chalazion disappears by itself however; you may need medical intervention if the bump is large enough that it blocks your vision. The condition begins with a small, tender spot on the eyelid. There can be increased tearing, blurry vision and increased sensitivity to light.
HOW IS CHALAZION DIAGNOSED?
In most cases, an ophthalmologist can diagnose this condition by taking a close look at the lump on the eyelid. The doctor will also check the symptoms to determine if the lump is a Chalazion.
HOW IS CHALAZION TREATED?
Steroid drops and other oral medication will be prescribed by the Ophthalmologist to help in gradually clearing the lump from the eyelid. Also, a warm compress is recommended as well as constant washing. A warm compress can help in softening and draining the lump. If these methods do not help it go away in a month, surgery will have to be conducted.
DID YOU KNOW?
In very rare cases, Chalazion is caused by a skin cancer and is important for early diagnosis
