According to conventional belief, lung cancer is the only kind of cancer caused by smoking. Recent research has shown that smoking or using tobacco products can cause cancers of the oesophagus, pancreas, liver, kidney, and stomach, among other organs.

Tobacco Contains A Variety Of Chemical Carcinogens
As a result, smoking is the leading avoidable cause of cancer. The answer is simple: quit smoking. Tobacco products include a number of chemicals that are commonly thought to cause cancer. Carcinogens are substances that are either naturally present in the tobacco-producing plant or are added by the tobacco maker. Benzene, some tobacco-specific nitrosamines, and formaldehyde are among the later carcinogens. Carcinogen quantities and specificity vary from maker to manufacturer and nation to country.

Consumption of carcinogen-containing items over time will ultimately result in the development of cancer. Certain compounds contained in tobacco and tobacco-related products have previously been classified as human carcinogens by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer).

Chemical Carcinogens And Their Effects -
It is important to note that there is no such thing as a safe manner to consume cigarettes. Cigarettes and pipes, as well as smokeless tobacco and cigars, all provide the same consequence. Tobacco contains chemicals that weaken our immune system, making it more difficult for it to attack malignant cells. This ensures that malignant cells continue to proliferate unabated and unkilled. Furthermore, the same chemicals modify 'DNA structure' and 'DNA instructions,' causing cells to proliferate out of control and aiding malignant growth.

How Can Carcinogens Get Into Our Bodies?
We breathe in the smoke, which delivers these toxins into our circulation. Once the chemicals enter our circulation, they spread throughout our bodies, bringing the cancerous toxin with them. Nonsmokers who stand near smokers (secondhand smoking) become passive smokers, inhaling the toxic smoke as well. According to the World Health Organization, passive or secondhand smoking is responsible for 10% of all smoking-related fatalities.

What Is The Average Time It Takes For Cancer To Develop?
While no particular time period has been established to link tobacco use to the development of cancer, it is thought to take several years, if not decades, for cancer to develop. The immune system of our bodies is capable of dealing with little damage; but, long-term smoking habits, as well as chemical carcinogens in our bloodstreams, cause irreversible DNA damage in many lung cells.

To summarise, it is strongly advised to stop smoking as soon as possible. Tobacco harms our bodies in a long-term and irreversible way.
