Hello,

I am Dr. Prerna Taneja. You are what you eat. What you eat depends on how good is your oral health. Today we are going to talk about what is the importance of teeth in our life. When we talk about the oral cavity or the teeth in it, this is the first step of digestion. 50% of our food is digested in the oral cavity. How effectively this process takes place depends on the number of teeth and your chewing efficiency. If your digestion is good obviously the nutrition that your body derives from it is going to be good and that is how if the nutrition is good you will be disease-free. So, good teeth are equal to being disease free.

How do we start getting this habit into our children? For children always make sure that they brush at least twice a day, once in the morning and once before going to bed. As children, they also want to eat chocolates and we as parents want to not give it to them. The ideal situation gives them the chocolates, at the end of the day they are kids but just remember to give them the chocolates or the sweets immediately after food because when we are eating or chewing there is a pH change which happens in the oral cavity. If the pH change happens multiple times which happens during in-between snacking, this leads to more cavities. So just give your child the chocolate or the sweets immediately after food.

Make sure that he just brushes his teeth with a brush without even the toothpaste after taking the sweet. This will ensure that he doesn't I have cavities. Also, remember to go to your dentist and get a fluoride treatment for the kid's teeth. Fluoride makes the outer layer of the teeth called enamel very strong and resistant to cavities. Always remember kid's teeth are the foundation for the permanent teeth. Make sure that you make this foundation very strong. Missing teeth lead to the vicious cycle of disease. If you have missing teeth, your chewing efficiency will decrease. If you have lesser chewing efficiency the nutritional status of the body will decrease.

This leads to an increase in the disease which you are suffering from. If you don't have the disease but still you have missing teeth then also you will not be able to chew your food properly which will lead to the development of a disease. So always replace missing teeth. How to replace them? The best replacement available is implant treatment. Implant not only replace the missing teeth as a permanent solution but also preserve the surrounding bone which is the jaw bone so that it doesn't reflect on your face. Implants, more or less, act like permanent natural teeth. So, invest in good oral health to be disease free.

Thank you.
