Hello everyone,

I am Dt. Maithili clinical nutritionist and a Registered Dietitian. Today I am here to talk to you all about the diet you should be having in the summer season. Now I am sure all of us love to have a bite on some ice cream or sip on some cola in summer to beat the scorching summer heat, isn’t it! But do you know the cooling effect of ice cream or a cola is just temporary? So here are top 5 foods and drinks which you can include in your summer diet, which are not only healthy but will also help you beat the scorching summer heat. First is the infused water, now I am sure all of us know the cooling effect of cucumbers and melons you can make them interesting by making a homemade infused water or flavored water. To make an infused water you just have to soak 1 or 2 slices of cucumber or melon in a liter of water overnight with some lime and mint, strain it and have it in the morning.

The flavored water or the infused water will not only help you stay hydrated but will also improve your metabolism and help in weight reduction. The second cooling food is Tadgolas or ice apple, the tadgolas are found in every corner of the street in the summer season, especially around the indian coastal part. Tadgolas are filled with natural electrolytes and are high on water content. The third one is Basil seeds, basil seeds are popularly or commonly known as Sabja seeds or Falooda seeds. Basil seeds have a lot of cooling properties and they have a tendency to hold water. Try to include one spoon of basil seeds in you daily summer diet by mixing it with some liquids. You can mix them with plane water, buttermilk, coconut water or some home made coolers. The last two cooling foods are the cooling beverages, first one is Kokum juice, kokum juice has a lot of cooling properties.

You can make homemade Kokum sharbat which is filled with a lot of water and natural electrolyte. It will definitely help you in managing the summer heat. The second cooling beverage is Buttermilk, buttermilk is filled with ample of water, curd and cooling ingredients like pudina, zeera and rock salt. Try to have buttermilk on everyday basis on a summer afternoon, it will really help you to hydrate the body and also help in improving your digestion. So my take-home message to all of you is, try to stay away from sugary ice creams or colas which will just add calories to the diet. Include natural cooling food which helps you to stay fit, healthy as well as hydrate your body and help to beat the scorching summer heat.

Thankyou!
