Sunscreen protects us from harmful effects of sun rays and SPF tells about the duration of action of the particular sunscreen. The right way of application of sunscreen is to form a thick layer onto your skin, apply liberally, so that the skin doesn't get directly exposed (never rub the sunscreen rather spread it evenly) and sun rays will gets reflected back after falling on the skin, that too 20-30 minutes before stepping out (which gives enough of time for sunscreen to settle down on the skin). And in case, you are out in the sun for long hours, keep on re-applying the same after 3-4 hours.

During swimming, use water proof sunscreen. (chlorinated water makes us more prone to sun tan.

We indians need spf - 25 to 30 only. White people, albinos or those who lack melanin needs more spf as their skin is extremely sensitive in the sunlight (so, thanks to god for giving us melanin as a natural sun-protector!).

But as we all know synthesis of vitamin d takes place in the presence of sunlight, we should get ourselves exposed to sunlight without sunscreen, for at least 15-20 minutes 2-3times a week!

(choose right sunscreen as per your skin type).
