Stem Cell Transplantation is the most advanced treatment for leukemia. This method involves the substitution of infected bone marrow cells (leukemia cells) with healthy cells (stem cells). Healthy stem cells develop into new white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.

Blood cancer is caused due to mutations in our DNA, but it is not known yet what exactly induces changes in the DNA that lead to blood cancer. The possible risks of developing blood cancer include age (usually found in adults and more common in older people), sex (more commonly found in males), family history (risk of developing blood cancer is greater if a family member has it or had it in the past), radiation and chemical exposure (certain environmental conditions such as radiation exposure or exposure to few chemicals are linked to a few types of blood cancer), and ethnicity (African-Caribbean people have a higher risk of blood cancer).

Melanoma is the cancer of the pigment-containing cells in the skin known as melanocytes. Leukemia is cancer that affects the white blood cells in the blood, lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system of the body, and myeloma is the cancer of the plasma cells in the blood.

Leukemia is categorized into four main types acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). There are other rare types of leukemia which include large granular lymphocytic leukemia (LGL), T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), hairy cell leukemia (HCL), and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML).
