People who become addicted to the internet indulge in seeking temporary pleasure rather than resorting to normal intimate relationships. They forget to live the present and struggle to control their behavior, which most of the times becomes impossible. They might get rejected due to such struggle and loss of self-esteem is the next step. People with anxiety, feeling of isolation, or depression may become addicted to the internet as a form of self-medication. Limit the usage of internet and undergo psychological treatment if necessary.

Internet addiction can be treated. A schedule that is closely supervised with limited or no access to the internet can help. Group therapies, behavioral modifications, family therapies, etc. can be used. Recreational therapies can also be suggested. The most important step is to identify an experienced psychiatrist or a counselor that the patient is comfortable with. The person addicted must understand the ill-effects caused due to internet addiction and must be ready to get treated. Be ready to change for good and choose a medical practitioner that you are comfortable with.

There are many associated problems caused due to internet addiction. Carpal tunnel syndrome, insomnia, neglecting personal hygiene, vision problems, headaches, pain in the neck and the back, poor nutrition, tiredness, etc. are a few problems that are caused due to internet addiction. Mingling with other people might become difficult and internet addicts tend to live in their own world and ignore what is happening around them. Personal relationships go bad due to addiction. Take steps to stay away from the internet. Limit your access by diverting your attention to some other activities.

This can lead to many problems like sleeping in school, worsening grades, lying about the usage of internet, getting irritated when not allowed to use the internet etc. Coming out of such addiction is vital at that age. Counseling sessions can contribute a great deal in coming out of such addiction. Indulging in other activities like sports, social groups etc. can divert the person from using the internet.
