What is a yeast infection?

Vaginal yeast infection is a sort of vaginitis, i.e., swelling and infection of the vagina. While there are many types of vaginitis, vaginal yeast infection is the most common one. It is a fungal contamination created by the same fungi yeast which is growing outdoors and is used to ferment many food items. When the fungi grow inside your body, it leads to an infection by taking over the healthy bacteria residing in the mucosa of the vagina. When the natural pH balance of vagina is lost, an instance of yeast infection become more familiar. Hormonal imbalance, antibiotic treatments, low immunity and poor hygiene also might lead to yeast infection.

Yeast infection includes all the symptoms of tingling, increasing pain and redness of vagina. While yeast infection can be easily treated with OTC oral and topical medicines, if you are facing it for the first time, it is always advisable to go to the doctor to be certain that it is a common yeast infection and not some other serious STD. Once you are confident it is nothing serious, there are both prescription drugs and natural remedies to solve the problem. Check with your doctor as having recurrent infections could also be a sign of some underlying disease like hormonal imbalance or diabetes.
Yogurt helps prevent a yeast infection

Yogurt contains a natural friendly bacteria called lactobacillus acidophilus which helps prevent a yeast infection from again resuming. Yogurt is a probiotic which is effective to restore the bacteria yeast balance in your body. Incorporating yogurt as a part of your daily meal plan can ward off numerous infections. You can also externally apply plain, unsweetened yogurt in the affected area.
Boric acid is particularly useful in treating chronic vaginal yeast infection

It is particularly helpful in treating chronic vaginal yeast infection. Insert one capsule filled with boric acid deeply in your vagina during bedtime, every day for one week. Alternatively, mix some boric acid with water to make it diluted and use the solution on the affected area. Keep for a couple of minutes and then rinse off with plain water. The method should be replicated twice a day for two weeks. However, don t opt for this remedy if you are pregnant.
Apple cider vinegar is a harmful component and should not be used to cure yeast infection

Apple cider vinegar is instead a magic potion, which provided host of health benefits. Both apple cider vinegar and regular vinegar can control the symptoms of yeast infection. Mix two Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water and drink twice a day. Alternatively, dilute apple cider vinegar with plain water and apply externally.
