Vaginal infection - Could it be Vaginitis?

Vaginitis is a condition where your vagina or vulva becomes swollen or irritated. This can happen when there s a change in the standard chemical stability of your vagina, or if you have a response to vexatious products. Many factors can lead to vaginitis and sometimes there s more than one reason. Factors that give rise to vaginitis include common vaginal infections like bacterial vaginosis and vaginal yeast infections. It may also occur due to lack of estrogen which is known as atrophic vaginitis where you have irritation but no abnormal discharge. Boric acid can be used to treat the vaginal infection as it contains antiseptic property.

Sometimes burning, itching and even discharge occur without an infection. Most of the time it is an irritation or an allergic reaction from products such as douches, detergents, perfumed soaps, fabric softeners, vaginal sprays or spermicides. It can also be due to menopause as the level of hormones is low. It can also occur if you've had removed your ovaries. This can make your vagina dry, a condition called atrophic vaginitis. You may have vaginal burning and itching after a sexual intercourse. It's better to see your gynecologist before you try over-the-counter medications.

Keep yourself dry and clean. But gynecologists don't recommend heavily perfumed soaps or vaginal sprays for this area. Douching may create soreness, too, and also it can hide or spread the infection. It also removes the healthy bacteria that take care of your vaginal health. Eating yogurt can help you get fewer infections.

Sexual intercourse may be painful or uncomfortable. In extreme cases, you can get sores or fissures on your vagina or vulva. It may sting when you pee if you have lots of irritation. Signs of Bacterial Vaginitis (BV) may comprise a light white or grayish vaginal discharge, with a disturbing fishy odor along with burning and itching. Wear breathable cotton underwear as it prevents the bacterial infection and thus serves as a good precautionary measure.
