While Lasik can correct a lot of the common vision problems and is applicable to many people, not everyone may be a candidate for Lasik. Lasik surgeons apply high standards while evaluating candidates. There may be certain candidates who, either temporarily - due to some physical condition or permanently, are not ideal for Lasik surgery. It is best to go to a Lasik clinic to get yourself evaluated and know for sure whether you will be an ideal candidate for the procedure.
How much time does it take to perform Lasik surgery per eye?

Although times may vary from patient to patient, Lasik is usually a very quick and precise procedure. In most cases, the procedure is done within an hour or so. Usually, a single eye can take about 15 to 30 minutes although most of the time is taken in preparation itself. Once the procedure is done, the patients can go home quickly and can resume normal daily activities within a day.
Patients can see the improvements in vision on the operating table during the procedure itself.

This is the case with many patients as the changes in the cornea and the improvements in vision are immediate and can be noticed while the procedure is ongoing. Many patients have stated that they suddenly see improvements in their vision in the middle of procedure when blurry things at a distance suddenly become clear. However, this is only part of the improvement as the vision tends to improve further a few days after the procedure as the eye recovers.

There are many hormonal changes that your body may go through during pregnancy, and thus it may end up affecting the shape of your cornea. It is therefore not a good idea to perform Lasik surgery during this time as the results will be less than ideal. Also, you may need to take a few antibiotics and medications after the surgery which may not be beneficial for your baby when you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Lasik can be done at any age.

While Lasik can be done in most ages, it is advisable to undergo this procedure after the eye growth has stabilized and the vision problems are stable. This will allow for the corrective measures to take effect properly and not cause further problems due to changes in the cornea in the future. It is advisable to undergo Lasik after 18 or 21 as different doctors prescribe different ages to carry out the procedure. It is advisable that you consult your doctor to ascertain which time is best for you.
