A swollen, red eye that is tearing up for no reason is indicative of your eye allergy. Unlike normal tears, such tears are generally slimy and hence, you will immediately understand the presence of allergy. Almost all forms of conjunctivitis have these two symptoms in common and hence, they are sure signs of such an allergy.

There is a specific type of allergy linked with usage of contact lens and it is known as contact allergic conjunctivitis. Tears from your eyes contain certain proteins that can pile up on the lens surface and lead to an allergic condition. It can also arise due to irritation from wearing the lens for a long period of time.

If you are having an eye allergy during winter, it may well be from your woollen clothes. Woollen clothes are sources of multiple irritations and eye allergy is one of them. Some people are allergic to woollen clothes and you may be one of them. Consult a doctor to know if you are prone to allergies from woollen clothes.

A common myth regarding allergies is that sitting in front of laptop or TV for too long can cause eye allergy. Your eyes start throbbing and you may feel this is the beginning of allergic symptoms. However, this throbbing is nowhere related to allergy. Continuous exposure to TV induces a headache. This headache is the source of your throbbing eyes. Hence, there is no relation between allergy and watching TV.
