This medication is generally prescribed to stop heavy bleeding during periods. It works as an antifibrinolytic and thus stops the blood clots from disintegrating, which in turn reduces menstrual bleeding.
Patients are generally not prescribed this drug if-
- They are allergic to any component present in the medicine.
- They have a problem of blood clots that are present in the brain, eye, or lungs.
- They have bleeding because of a kidney problem or brain problem.
- They experience irregular bleeding but its reason has not yet been determined
- They are currently on birth control pill. This is primarily because such birth controls contain estrogen as well as progestin.
