Abzorb 1% Dusting Powder

Manufacturer: Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd
Medicine composition: Clotrimazole
Prescription vs.OTC: Prescription by Doctor required

Abzorb 1% Dusting Powder is an anti-fungal medication used to treat vaginal and skin yeast or fungal infections, rashes, oral thrush, athlete’s foot, jock itch, ring worm etc. It can be either taken orally as a medicine or can be applied as an ointment to the skin.

Abzorb 1% Dusting Powder prevents yeast and fungi to produce ergosterol, an essential component to form their cell membrane. It causes holes to develop on the cells and result in cell contents to leak, thereby weakening the cell membrane and finally leading to death of the micro-organism.

Pregnant women, breast feeding mothers, patients under herbal or antibiotic medication or dietary supplements and allergic to any food or other substance should be very careful before starting to take Abzorb 1% Dusting Powder.

Abzorb 1% Dusting Powderis an anti-fungal medication used to treat yeast and fungal infections of the vagina, the mouth and the skin. It is also used for treating oral thrush, ringworm, player’s foot, jock itch etc. Abzorb 1% Dusting Powder limits the production of ergosterol which is an important component of fungal cell membrane. Disruption in its production leads to development of holes in the membrane and leakage of cell component, therefore resulting in the death of the bacteria.

It can be applied as ointment, powder or lotion. It also comes in the form of lozenges. For treating vaginal infection tablets and creams are available.

I find that for sometime now my sweat has become bit sticky and because of this I become very uncomfortable particularly in the humid season. Secondly, if I do not apply 'Abzorb" or candid dusting powder in my groins twice daily, itching starts. Is it due to some deficiency in the body because this started once I crossed age of 45 years 3-4 years back? Please suggest.

Sweat is a normal discharge of the body it has nothing to do with deficiencies. With age the metabolism of the body changes that is the only reason you feel that it has become sticky. And the itching you feel is because you sweat in your groin it cloggs pores and attracts dirt which causes itching. So just keep that area clean especialy during this weather.

When you treated your jock itch with local application and steroids...and antifungal creams... it didn't actually got cured.. but it went deeper into the system... and now it has come out as more serious affection... your partner may be healthy as of now... but there are chances that she may develop some disease in time... The best way to treat any disease is homoeopathy which cures it from the roots... Thats why it is not becoming the first choice of treatment in many areas.... You can consult too before it is too late...

    Tips to Manage Pitted Keratolysis

    Tips to Manage Pitted Keratolysis

Pitted keratolysis is a skin condition that affects the soles of your feet. As a result of this disease, the skin on the forefoot or heel turns white with pitted clusters. This is often accompanied by an offensive odor and is worse when the skin is wet. This odor is the main reason patients seek treatment for this skin condition. If left untreated, this can last for many years.

People who suffer from excessive sweating and those who wear closed shoes for extended durations have a high risk of suffering from this condition. Pitted Keratolysis is a bacterial infection where the bacteria multiply in moist conditions and release enzymes that destroy the horny cells of the foot soles.

With time, this turns into characteristic crater like pits on the skin. They also produce sulphur compounds simultaneously that lead to the odor.

Treatment for this skin condition can be categorized under medicinal treatments and home remedies.

    Medicinal remedies:

    1. One of the ways to treat this disease is to treat the hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating that triggers it.
    2. Topical fusidic acid ointments or clotrimazole ointments can also provide some relief.
    3. Your doctor may also prescribe oral antibiotics to clear stubborn lesions.
    4. Other treatment options include anti-bacterial soap and injectable botulinum toxin. Using a strong antiperspirant with aluminum chloride can also resolve the issue.

    Home remedies:

    1. The first thing you must do if you suffer from this condition is keep your feet dry. Wearing socks with your shoes is a good idea as this keeps your feet dry and ventilated. Thus, keeping the bacteria from multiplying. After having a bath, pay special attention to drying your feet. You could even use a hair dryer on your feet.
    2. Wash your feet with soap and water at least twice a day. You could also use an antiseptic cleanser or antibacterial soap.
    3. Try and reduce the number of hours you wear closed shoes. Whenever possible, wear open toed sandals. Do not wear the same shoes for two days in a row without giving them time to dry out.
    4. If possible, change your socks at least once in the day.
    5. Do not share footwear or towels with anyone else.
    6. Apply antiperspirants to the soles of your feet.
    7. Soak your feet in half a bucket of water with 15-20 drops of tea tree oil.

    All About Tinea Corporis

When skin is infected by a fungus, the resultant infection is called tinea corporis (ringworm). It is most common in athletes and children. The infection may appear on the scalp, beards, groin, in between the toes and other places.

    Causes:

Tinea corporis can be caused by:

    1. Skin contact
    2. It is contagious, so if you use towels, bed linens and clothes of an infected person, you will get infected too.
    3. Touching a pet infected by tinea corporis.

    Signs and Symptoms:

    1. The rash starts as a scant area of red, bumpy pimples and spots. Then the rash forms a ring, with raised, red borders and a clear middle. The border might look scaly.
    2. The rash may show up on face, legs, arms or other body areas which are exposed.
    3. The area feels itchy. It might also be flaky and dry. You might even experience hair loss in the infected area.

    Diagnosis:

The skin in the area will be gently scraped off and the sample will be collected. Then, the sample will be viewed under a microscope. That will help discerning, which type of fungus is causing the infection.

    Treatment:

The following treatment regime must be followed:

    1. The skin must be kept dry and clean.
    2. Fungal creams are best. Creams that contain miconazole, ketoconazole, clotrimazole or oxiconazole are excellent for fungal infections.
    3. Only apply the cream on clean skin. You can use it twice in a day. Bandaging the infected area is not recommended.
    4. To prevent the infection from spreading, wash your towels in warm water and use clean towels every time you bathe. Also, clean the bathroom and wear freshly washed clothes.
    5. If pets are infected, treat them as well.

The infection usually goes away under 4 weeks. The infection may branch out to the nails, groin, scalp and feet. Self-care is effective, but if symptoms persist, then do consult a specialist. Ringworms have certain complications, such as scratching the skin too much causes skin infections and other skin disorders, which may need further treatment.

What Can Lead To Inflammation of The Vagina?

    MBBS, DGO

What Can Lead To Inflammation of The Vagina?

Vaginitis is the inflammation of one’s vagina accompanied by pain during intercourse, mild vaginal bleeding, painful urination, vaginal itching or a considerable change in the amount, odor and color of the vaginal discharge.

    Causes:
    1. A certain level of bacteria is normally found in one’s vagina (lactobacilli). Now if this count is outnumbered by the other bacteria (anaerobes), the balance in the vagina gets disrupted giving rise to bacterial vaginosis. Such kind of vaginitis usually stems from sexual intercourse with multiple sex partners.
    2. Yeast infections occur due to an overgrowth of fungal organisms in one’s vagina, especially Candida Albicans.
    3. Trichomoniasis caused by the one celled microscopic parasite ‘Trichomonas Vaginalis’ generally spreads through sexual intercourse with an infected partner. The condition also makes one vulnerable to various sexually transmitted infections.
    4. Spermicidal products, scented detergents, perfumed soaps, douches, vaginal sprays or foreign objects such as tampons that were not taken out or tissue paper might trigger allergic reactions or irritation in the vaginal tissues.
    5. Surgical removal of the ovaries or reduced estrogen count after menopause might cause thinning of the vaginal lining, thereby resulting in vaginal burning, dryness or irritation.

    Treatments:
    1. For Bacterial vaginosis, your doctor might advise the application of clindamycin cream or metronidazole gel as well as metronidazole tablets which are to be taken orally.
    2. Yeast infections might be treated with an anti-fungal suppository or cream, for instance, tioconazole, butoconazole, clotrimazole or miconazole. Oral medication, such as fluconazole is also administered to treat the same.
    3. Metronidazole or tinidazole tablets are prescribed for Trichomoniasis.
    4. Estrogen in the form of rings, tablets or vaginal creams is effective in treating low estrogen level after menopause.
    5. For non-infectious vaginitis primarily caused by objects, such as tampons, sanitary napkins, laundry detergent or new soap, it is essential to pinpoint the source of the irritation and avoid them. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
