MRI Scan - Finger Test

If we find finger and thumb trauma such as sprains, open wounds, lacerations, nerve injuries, fractures and dislocations at an earlier stage, we can prevent from the future infections. The radiologist’s role is also vital for the attending physician in providing a rapid and accurate diagnosis. Stress radiographs are used when conventional radiographic images are negative for fractures. Stress Radiograph results are difficult to explain and there is always the underlying concern that stress maneuvers may exacerbate the injury.

There is no special preparation for or dietary restrictions for MRI Scan patient. Radiologist or nurse will explain the procedure and patient will be advised not to use such drug which is harmful during the examination. Ferromagnetic clips are highly dangerous because the torque induced by the magnetic field could potentially dislodge a recently implanted clip. Also, if the patient is working in steel industry, he may find the similar issues as small metal fragments will place in their eyes. To prevent any possibility of optic damage, these patients should be screened with plain films prior to their MRI exam.

MRI is used to examine bones, joints, and soft tissues such as cartilage, muscles, and tendons for injuries. MRI is also used to check the presence of structural abnormalities.

You will be asked to remove anything metallic (jewelry, eyeglasses, watches etc.) The examination lasts from 30-45 minutes. You can listen to music during the examination. When the examination begins, lie down on the padded scan table. When the scanner starts, you will hear some gentle tapping sounds. These sounds occur whenever the MRI pictures are being taken. Think of them as the clicks of a very large camera. An MRI is painless examination. During the exam, you will be advised not to move anywhere. If you move, the scans will be out of focus and you may have to repeat the exam. You may be injected with a solution called a 'contrast agent' if advised by the doctor. There are few side effects of MRI. Some patients may be required to obtain blood work prior to your appointment if contrast is prescribed so the correct dose can be given. When your scan is finished, the technologist will assist you off of the table and direct you back to the changing suite or the front lobby. You will also receive a copy of your MRI.
